What Is Texas Adult Drivers Ed?
Texas adult drivers ed is a state-approved, TDLR-licensed course for adults who want a Texas driver license without sitting through traditional classroom instruction. You complete the entire 6-hour course online, on your own schedule, and earn your Certificate of Completion when you finish.
Adult drivers ed is required in Texas for first-time applicants ages 18–24. For those 25 and older it is not required, but it is still a great way to prepare. When you finish the course and pass the in-course written exam, your ADE-1317 Certificate of Completion shows DPS you completed adult driver education, so you do not retake that written test at the office. Use the certificate within two years. You still take the vision test and the road test at DPS. Want the full walkthrough? See how it works.
How Much Does Texas Adult Drivers Ed Cost?
At $39.95, our TDLR-approved six-hour course is one flat, all-in price — your certificate is included, with no hidden processing or certificate fees. The course price is what you pay us; ITAD is a separate free DPS video, and any license, permit, or test fees are paid to Texas DPS. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.
